My thesis explores the Indian state's experiences with internal armed conflicts to analyse the administrative, political and security approaches adopted by the nation when dealing with armed conflict typically involving a segment of the nation's own population/ citizenry. The thesis identifies best practices and lessons learned in the cases of Punjab, Mizoram and Tripura and explores the debate of resolution vs. settlement in a bid to convert these experiences into national models and policies for conflict resolution in the present and future. The thesis contributes to the international body of work on peace and conflict studies and helps position India as a thought leader in the global academic and policy conversations on peace, security, conflict resolution and geopolitics.
